Life changing meds
You’ve likely heard about Ozempic and Saxenda. These are in the class of drugs known as GLP-1 agonists—also known as semaglutides or liraglutides. The drug is delivered with a weekly or daily self-administered shot and works by mimicking your body’s natural digestive hormones, helping you feel fuller faster and for longer. In clinical trials, patients lost an average of 15% of their body weight when taking these medications (compared with 2.4% in the placebo group), when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.*
*Patients without diabetes but with a BMI of ≥30, or ≥27 with comorbidities, lost an average of 15% of their body weight in 1 year in a 68-week clinical trial evaluating 2.4 mg semaglutide, when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
How it works
We help you lose weight and keep it off with effective medication delivered to your doorstep, personalized coaching by our care team, and mobile lab work to track your progress.
Step 1:
Intake
Answer a few questions about your health history and weight loss goals. A Scrubs-affiliated provider will review your responses. If you qualify, you will be provided with a requisition for lab work.
Step 2:
Diagnosis
Have a lab test in your home in Calgary, or take the lab requisition to the nearest APL collection centre anywhere in Alberta. If you have recently had lab work, you may be able to skip this step.
Step 3:
Treatment
Your provider will determine your eligibility for medication. If you proceed with the program, you’ll receive a personalized treatment plan with a prescription best suited to your biology.
Step 4:
Support
Your subscription includes medication adjustments as required, prescription deliveries and ongoing support for your weight loss journey from a Scrubs-affiliated provider.

Scrubs-affiliated providers are registered to provide services throughout Alberta. Currently, mobile lab service is available in Calgary and area. A travel surcharge based on distance is added for service to Okotoks, Cochrane, Canmore, Banff and other rural areas. Prescription delivery is free.

The cost of intake and diagnosis is just $99. After that, if you decide to proceed with treatment and ongoing support, the cost is $129 per month. The medication will be billed separately and the cost to you will vary based on the exact prescription and your insurance coverage. Typically, employer health spending accounts cover the cost of medication, which runs from $150-$385 per month depending on dosage.

The fees cover your consult, personalized treatment plan, monthly titration of your dose and prescription renewals, prescription delivery to your door and a monthly consult with a care provider, which could include a video consult or direct messaging. Your treatment plan will include nutritional advice and other information to support your weight loss journey.

The Scrubs weight loss program provides several options. Our most popular medication is a proprietary compound of semaglutide (the same drug in Ozempic) and Vitamin B6, which helps to mitigate some of side effects such as stomach discomfort. We also offer Ozempic, which is about twice the cost.

Your provider will work closely with you to find the optimal dose and type of medication to maximize benefits and minimize side effects. This process is known as titration. You will be prescribed a low dose to get you started. After four weeks your Scrubs provider will consult with you to see how things are going and potentially adjust your dose. This process will continue until you both believe the medication is working well for you.

Ozempic, Wegovy and other drugs used for weight loss are self-injected with an easy-to-administer kit. Self-injection is not for everyone, but our care providers will show you how it’s done virtually if you need help. If you live in Calgary or Edmonton, you can also have a Scrubs nurse deliver the shot at your home or office, for an extra charge.

Possible side effects include gastrointestinal issues, such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation. In rare cases, the medications have been associated with pancreas, gallbladder and stomach problems. We provide a proprietary compound of semaglutide and vitamins that helps reduce stomach upset in patients.

Yes! Most health spending accounts cover some or all of the costs associated with consultations, lab tests and prescriptions. Scrubs is a private company, so our consultation services are not yet covered by provincial health insurance. Certain services may also be eligible under other employee benefit and Blue Cross plans. Contact your benefits provider to check your coverage. The Scrubs care team will happily help you explore options for coverage.
